A Chennai-based entrepreneur has shared how he left a high-paying job in the United States, returned to India with his family, and started a business with savings of just ₹90,000. Vivek Thiruvengadam, founder and CEO of Qubit Fitness, shared the milestone in an Instagram post marking six years since he decided to leave the US after spending 14 years there.“6 years ago, I took a leap that made no sense on paper, but made perfect sense in my heart. Sometimes, belief is your only business plan,” he wrote.According to Thiruvengadam, the move was never about chasing a bigger income. He said he wanted to return to Chennai to be closer to family and create something meaningful. At the time, he and his wife relocated with their 11-month-old daughter.He said he launched Qubit Fitness in January 2021 without investors, employees or even an office.“When I started Qubit in Jan 2021, I had no office. No investors. No team. Just my laptop, my time, and ₹90,000 in savings.”.Before starting the business, Thiruvengadam had written down a personal goal of one day matching the income he earned in the US, but as an entrepreneur rather than an employee.
Early challenges and gradual growth
The entrepreneur admitted the early months were financially challenging. He said his company generated ₹20 lakh in revenue by the end of 2021, which was only a fraction of his previous annual salary in the US.“It was humbling, but it gave me belief,” he noted.He said the business expanded steadily over the following years by adding more clients, improving systems and increasing its impact.Six years after returning to India, Thiruvengadam said he has finally achieved the financial target he had set for himself.“Now, in my sixth year, I’m happy to share that I’ve reached that goal. Not as an employee… but as a business owner,” he wrote.Reflecting on the journey, he said consistency and patience proved more valuable than talent alone.“What I learned? Consistency beats talent. Patience compounds faster than effort. Money feels different when it’s built from purpose,” he added, while thanking his family, clients and early supporters for believing in him.The post drew congratulatory messages from users, with many praising Thiruvengadam’s decision to return to India and start his own venture.One user commented, “Congratulations!
