The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has opened the application process for the AICTE-Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) 2027, offering eligible Indian undergraduate students an opportunity to undertake a fully funded, 12-week research internship at participating universities in Canada.Eligible students can submit their applications until September 16, 2026. Mitacs has made it clear that applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Up to 300 Indian students to benefit annually
The internship has been launched under the AICTE-Mitacs partnership, aimed at giving Indian students greater access to international research and academic opportunities.Under the programme, up to 300 eligible Indian undergraduate students will receive fully funded research internships every year. The initiative is planned for a period of three years, beginning in 2027.The programme will place selected students at participating Canadian academic institutions, where they will work under the supervision and guidance of faculty members.
12-week internship to be held between May and October 2027
The Globalink Research Internship will be conducted in person for 12 consecutive weeks between May and October 2027.The programme is designed to give students exposure beyond classroom-based learning. Participants will get an opportunity to work in research environments, gain laboratory experience where applicable and interact with researchers and faculty members in Canada.The internship will also expose students to international mentorship and multicultural academic settings. The programme is expected to help participants develop research skills, professional networks and a better understanding of global academic practices.

AICTE-Mitacs GRI 2027: Check eligibility criteria
Students who are studying in an institution that has received the approval from AICTE can opt for the internship if they meet the specified eligibility criteria.The applicants should:
- Be 18 years or older.
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate course in an institution that has received the approval from AICTE.
- Have completed two years of the undergraduate course or they should be in the second year when applying.
- Meet the specified criteria for eligibility for the internship.
The students are required to check the specified criteria before applying since meeting only the basic academic criteria may not be enough because they are required to fulfill the specified criteria under the GRI program.
Pre-departure support for selected candidates
Shortlisted students will receive pre-departure assistance and orientation before travelling to Canada for the internship.The support is intended to help selected candidates prepare for their international research experience and understand the requirements associated with participating in the programme.
