NEW DELHI: India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been ruled out of the three match T20I series against Afghanistan on Monday. The spinner picked up an injury after the first contest at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, which India won by 7 wickets. The cause of the injury remains unclear.“Yes, Varun has been ruled out. He is out of the series. It is a fresh injury,” a BCCI source told TimesofIndia.com.The injury comes as a blow for Chakaravarthy and India. He had recently recovered from a hamstring injury that had kept him out of white ball matches in England in July. In the first T20I against Afghanistan, the 35-year-old picked up a wicket while conceding just 16 runs in his four overs.Last week, Varun had spoken about his injury concerns to this outlet and said, “This is actually my first ever muscle injury. So all of my injuries have been impact injuries and other accidents that have happened on field,” he had said.Chakaravarthy’s injury would once again put the focus on BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) which has come under scanner with frequent injuries to players. The fresh injury leaves Chakaravarthy doubtful for the Asian Games in Japan, beginning on September 19.
