A Redditor made a social media post about how priorities change based on situations and how he did not think about any of the issues that he is thinking about right now seven years ago when he moved back to India from the US. The post went viral as many Indians in the US are in two minds about going back home amid the increasing crackdown on H-1B visa holders and uncertainty over Green Cards. The Redditor provided background of his case: He moved to the US for his master’s in 2012 and worked there until 2019. During the Covid, he went back to India and it felt the right decision at that time. He said he wanted to build his own startup and settled in Pune.“India did give me a lot of what I was looking for. There was peace of mind, family around, a comfortable lifestyle, and a lot of everyday things were just easier to manage,” the man said, adding that situations now changed as he has a child. He said Pune was a pleasant city before Covid but now he’s concerned about pollution, lack of public space, walkable neighborhoods, safe places for kids to play and in general a better quality of life.“None of these things bothered me nearly as much when I first moved back. But once you have a family, you start looking at places very differently,” he said, advising fellow Indians in a fix on whether to go back to India or to continue in foreign countries. “One thing I’d tell people who are thinking of moving back to India: don’t assume that once you move back, everything will be sorted forever.”The Redditor said that he and his wife decided to consider Malaysia, Thailand and Dubai for the next chapter of their lives.“I think once you’ve lived abroad for a significant part of your life, you inevitably keep comparing places. For a long time, I thought I just needed to settle down somewhere and stop thinking about it. But I’ve made peace with the fact that perhaps I’ll always feel this way to some extent,” the Redditor said.“I don’t regret moving back. It was the right decision for that phase of my life. And moving out now feels like the right decision for the next one,” he added.
