Delhi University (DU) has rolled out one of the biggest changes to its postgraduate admission system, introducing one-year master’s programmes for the first time. The new courses will be available from the 2026-27 academic session and are open to students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree from Delhi University. Students can apply for various courses such as MA in Arabic, Bengali, MCom, MSc in Biochemistry, etc. It is advised to refer to the official notification PDF to get the complete details of the one-year postgraduate courses.
46 one-year PG courses introduced
Delhi University will offer admissions to 46 one-year postgraduate programmes this year. These courses have been designed for students who have graduated from DU under the four-year undergraduate framework. The introduction of these programmes marks a major departure from the university’s long-standing two-year postgraduate model and creates a new pathway for eligible students to complete a master’s degree in one academic year.
Over 1,100 seats added to postgraduate admissions
The newly introduced one-year programmes will have more than 1,100 seats across different disciplines. Alongside them, Delhi University will continue admissions to its 74 two-year postgraduate programmes, which together have around 13,500 seats. With both sets of programmes running simultaneously, the university will offer admissions to about 14,600 postgraduate seats in the 2026 admission cycle, substantially increasing its overall postgraduate intake.
Existing two-year programmes remain unchanged
The launch of one-year master’s programmes does not affect the existing postgraduate courses. The university will continue to admit students to its two-year programmes under the current admission process. The new one-year courses have been introduced as an additional academic option for eligible graduates, allowing both programme structures to operate side by side. Here is the link of the official PDF for the DU one-year PG courses.
