The much-awaited film ‘Jana Nayagan,’ starring Thalapathy Vijay, has been in the news after its theatrical release has being delayed. The film which was originally scheduled to release during the Pongal festival on January 9, was delayed due to the hurdles it faced while obtaining the censor certificate. Since then, the makers have not announced a new release date. Amid this uncertainty, several reports began circulating that the film’s OTT platform had cancelled its deal because the theatrical release deadline had passed. Zee 5 Koushik clarifies OTT status of Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’
Actor Zee 5 Koushik addressed these rumours during the press meet of the series ‘Kaaki Circus.’ As reported by the Indian Express, he clearly stated that the OTT deal has not been finalised yet because the film’s release date is still undecided. “‘Since the release date of ‘Jana Nayagan’ has not been fixed yet, the OTT release has also not been decided,’ he said. Koushik added that there is no major issue regarding the digital release window. “‘The eight-week gap for OTT release is not a big problem. We will decide about the digital release closer to the theatrical release,’ he explained. His clarification helped calm speculation that the streaming agreement had already been cancelled.
Reason behind ‘Jana Nayagan’ delay
The delay of ‘Jana Nayagan’ is strongly attributable to censorship activities. Subsequently, the movie was planned to be screened on March 9, yet it was again pushed back because one of the censor board members was taken ill. Later, reports confirmed that the censor board had viewed the movie; however, the exact certificate details are still unknown. At the same time, the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are further believed to be influencing the film’s release dates.
