‘His & Hers’, the fresh psychological thriller that became a crowd-pleaser quickly after it was released this month, had everyone hooked instantly with its potential and possibilities. Part of the buzz came from its tense plot, but Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal’s perfect casting and top-notch performances sealed the deal. And that twist at the end — yes, you’ve got to watch it to relish it — people still aren’t over it. And now, fans want to know: is there more coming?
‘His & Hers Season 1’: Where things stand
Before we start talking about a second season, let’s look back at what happened in the first. ‘His & Hers’ — based on Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel — comes in as a six-part psychological thriller. The show centers on Anna Andrews (Tessa Thompson), a news reporter, and Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal), a detective. They’re exes, barely on speaking terms, but they’re forced back together in their old Georgia hometown when a string of murders shakes the community. Old wounds resurface fast. Both Anna and Jack have their own theories about the killer, and neither trusts the other completely. The whole thing kicks off with Rachel Hopkins’ murder. She’s connected to Anna’s old friend group, which pulls Anna in deeper than she’d like. Jack investigates while Anna reports on the murders, but things get complicated — Jack had an affair with Rachel, and when Anna finds out, it cuts deep. More bodies turn up — Helen, then Zoe — and suspicion bounces around the entire cast. For a while, everyone’s looking at Lexy (Rebecca Rittenhouse), but nothing really adds up.Then comes the finale, and it’s a gut punch. Turns out, Lexy isn’t the killer. Neither is Anna. Who is it, then? To know that, you have to watch the series. However, it’s safe to say that the season ends on a bittersweet note, only leaving the audience wanting more.
‘His & Hers Season 2 ’? — What we know so far
Right now, there’s no sign of a second season. ‘His & Hers’ was built as a limited series, telling the entire story from Feeney’s novel in one run. There’s no sequel novel, no prequel, nothing else to adapt. As reported by Huffington Post UK, when asked about a follow-up, executive producer William Oldroyd didn’t give much away. He told TV Insider, “You’d have to ask Netflix.” He added, “We didn’t think beyond that. I think we’ve created some great characters. The twist is terrific, and the audience is really reacting to it. Again, I think you have to ask Netflix to see what plans they have.”If there’s any shot at a second season, Oldroyd said they’d have to decide whether to pick up right after the twist or jump ahead.Tessa Thompson, who plays Anna, sounded pretty settled with how things ended. She told The Playlist, “This secret will either be kept by Anna or not. And that will leave audiences to wonder. I think it feels like a perfect ending in that way.”Still, Tessa did toss out a possibility — maybe a future season could follow new characters. “There could be another ‘his’ and another ‘hers’,” she said. “There are so many stories you can tell with the idea of dual perspectives and trying to figure out whose truth is real, or if there’s any such thing as real truth.”
