The day I noticed strange blue patches on my daughter’s legs, our worlds turned upside down. I never imagined those small marks would be the first signs of something so terrifying.
We immediately rushed her to the hospital. The doctors ran several tests and diagnosed her with Bell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. I heard the word “leukemia” and terms like “blood cancer” started echoing in my head.
I knew my daughter’s life would never be the same again.
I still remember that day vividly. Just a few hours before, she was happily getting ready for school, excited to go to her badminton academy in the evening like she always did. She was so full of life, always running, laughing, and dreaming. My daughter, who had never once complained of being unwell, was suddenly fighting for her life.
The doctor explained to us, “Saumya’s condition was genetic and that her only hope of survival is a Bone Marrow Transplant.” Hearing those words absolutely crushed us.
I held her hand tightly, forcing myself not to break down in front of her, but inside I was shattering. I never thought something like this would happen to my child.
Since that day, life has become an endless cycle of hospital visits, treatments, and fear. Saumya is admitted at a hospital in Ghaziabad, and we travel 12 kms every single day from our home in Greater Noida to see her, which feels like an eternity when your child is lying in pain.
I try to stay strong for her, but the expenses are far beyond my means. Before this, I earned enough to give my family a decent, peaceful life. But now, my earnings feel like nothing against the massive treatment cost of INR 35,00,000.00 !
We have already spent ₹10 lakhs, emptying our savings, taking help from friends, using the little insurance support we had. But the truth is, this amount is impossible for us to arrange alone. Every night, me and my wife sit in worry, wondering how we’ll save her.
Meanwhile, Saumya’s younger brother, Shaurya, keeps asking, “When will Didi come home?” and we have no words to answer him.
What breaks my heart the most is seeing Saumya miss out on her childhood. She talks about her school friends, about playing badminton, and about standing in front of a class as a teacher one day. She deserves that future. She deserves to live. And I, as her father, cannot let her dreams fade away because of something we cannot afford.
