Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga who is no stranger to controversies once again finds himself facing heat for his remark he made on the fellow filmmaker Sekhar Kammula. The ‘Animal’ director shared that he doesn’t like the heroes written by Kammula, although he likes his heroines. The comment seems to have to not sit well with multiple users on the internet who are criticising the filmmaker.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga ’s comments on Sekhar Kammula
During the pre-release event of ‘Epic’, the host Suma spoke to Sandeep Reddy Vanga off-stage about the way the protagonists of ‘Epic’ were described. The boy was compared to a hero from a Sekhar Kammula movie, while the girl was compared to a hero from a Sandeep Reddy Vanga movie.Vanga immediately responded, “I don’t like Sekhar Kammula’s heroes.”
Vanga says he likes Kammula’s heroines
When Suma expressed surprise at his statement, Vanga repeated his opinion and explained what he meant. “I don’t like Sekhar Kammula’s heroes, seriously. I like his heroines more. So, I liked it when they said the heroine is like a Sandeep Reddy Vanga hero. I want to see what they do with it,” he said.Vanga also doubled down on his views about love and said that he still stands by whatever was shown in his 2017 film ‘Arjun Reddy’.

The ‘Kabir Singh’ director’s comments soon started circulating on social media. Some users compared the heroes written by the two directors and argued that Kammula has created different kinds of male characters in his films.A user on X wrote, “Vanga’s heroes have a kind of madness that real people don’t have. @imvangasandeep Kammula’s film heroes are a little closer to ordinary people. @Shekharkammula His film heroes feel more realistic and relatable to the current generation.”

Speaking about both the filmmaker, Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Sekhar Kammula are known for creating very different types of male characters. Kammula has often been praised for writing heroes who are sensitive, vulnerable, grounded, supportive and idealistic. Meanwhile, Vanga has faced criticism over characters that are aggressive, flawed and unapologetic.Kammula’s last film was ‘Kuberaa’, starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, while Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s was Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’.
