Actress Shailene Woodley, best known for her leading roles in ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ and the ‘Divergent’ franchise, was also once cast in a ‘Spider-Man’ film. During one of her recent interviews, the actress opened up about the project and how it felt to find out that her scenes had been cut from the film altogether.Shailene Woodley on how it felt to be cut from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’The actress recently shared how she was not even made aware of the cuts in the film until a year later. For the unversed, Woodley was cast as Mary Jane in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ which starred Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the leading roles as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. Woodley recently shared her experience with the project and how it felt to find out that she was cut from the film while talking to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.She commented, “That was a fun phone call,” she recalled, adding, “I was cast as Mary Jane for ‘Spider-Man,’ which was my dream. Oh my god, Spider-Man’s my favourite superhero; Mary Jane was my favourite character growing up. So, when I got it, I was like, ‘This is so exciting!’”She then shared that even though she was expecting her scenes to be in the film, she was told around a year later that she was no longer part of the 2014 film. She provided more details and shared, “Then, like a year later, they were like, ‘So, you’re not in the movie anymore.’ I was like, ‘What? What do you mean?’ And they’re like, ‘We’ve introduced a lot of new characters in this last one, and we’re going to wait for whatever happens between [Emma Stone] and Andrew [Garfield].‘”Shailene Woodley was supposed to be introduced after Gwen Stacy’s deathThe second film with Garfield ends with Gwen Stacy’s death. Following this, the 34-year-old star shared that she was told her character would be introduced after Gwen’s death; however, a third film never happened, and her portrayal of Mary Jane never made it to the big screen. She added, “That’s what I was told, but again, who knows what the truth is? I could have been terrible, and they were like, ‘We can’t do this.’” The actress also revealed that she and Garfield had filmed around three scenes together, which she had been expecting to appear in the film.Currently, the latest instalment in the ‘Spider-Man’ film franchise features Peter Parker played by Tom Holland and Mary Jane played by his wife, Zendaya.
