The search for a studio partner for ‘Brahmastra 2’ continues, with reports suggesting that Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus has shown interest in coming on board. This follows unsuccessful talks with Jio Studios, Dharma Productions and Yash Raj Films.
Namit Malhotra enters the picture
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Ayan Mukerji’s production house, Starlight Pictures Private Limited, was one of the producers of the first ‘Brahmastra’ and holds the rights to the film’s intellectual property. Starlight Pictures will produce ‘Brahmastra 2’ and is currently looking for a studio partner to come on board. The makers have reportedly approached Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus.
Why Prime Focus could be a natural fit
The report explained why Malhotra’s involvement could make sense for the VFX-heavy franchise. Prime Focus was also one of the producers of ‘Brahmastra’ (2022) and is known for its expertise in visual effects.With the company having further expanded its VFX capabilities through projects such as ‘Ramayana‘, its involvement could be a natural fit for the ambitious sequel. The ‘Brahmastra’ franchise relies heavily on VFX, making Prime Focus’ technical expertise particularly relevant.However, nothing has been finalised yet, with advanced discussions reportedly underway.
Jio Studios backs out of the sequel
The development comes days after reports suggested that Jio Studios had stepped away from discussions to partner on the sequel.The makers had reportedly been in talks with Jio Studios to come on board as the studio partner for ‘Brahmastra 2’. However, the discussions did not materialise, and Jio has now decided against associating with the sequel.Interestingly, Star Studios was one of the key partners on the first ‘Brahmastra’. With Star’s entertainment business now part of JioStar and Jio Studios operating within the larger ecosystem, there had been speculation that the association could continue for the franchise.As things stand, however, neither Jio Studios nor Star Studios is involved with ‘Brahmastra 2’.

‘Brahmastra 2’ will once again be directed by Ayan Mukerji, who helmed the first instalment of the fantasy franchise.Recent reports have also claimed that Deepika Padukone will not be part of the sequel, while Alia Bhatt is expected to return in a shorter role. The sequel is part of Mukerji’s planned ‘Brahmastra’ trilogy and is expected to further expand the mythology and VFX-driven world established in the first film.
