Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has opened up about his relationship with girlfriend Shubhra Shetty and the 20-year age gap between them. In a recent conversation, the filmmaker spoke candidly about the scrutiny surrounding their relationship, admitted that he had once tried to distance himself from Shubhra because of their age difference, and also addressed whether the couple has any plans to get married.Anurag, who is 53, has been in a relationship with Shubhra, who is in her 30s, for several years. Speaking to Janice Sequeira, the filmmaker said that marriage is not something Shubhra believes in, but stressed that he is happy with their relationship and wants to continue being with her.

When asked if the couple plans to get married, Anurag said Shubhra does not believe in marriage. He added that he is more concerned about holding on to the relationship they have built together.“I’m very happy to be with her. I want to be with her. So, whatever that takes. There’s a lot in life. What is an old man’s insecurity? I want to be healthy enough to outlive the people I love,” Anurag said.The filmmaker further explained that while he thinks about the future, he does not want to allow societal expectations to dictate his relationship. “As long as we have found what we have found now, I’m happy with anything. I don’t want to lose this,” he said.
‘I became so conscious’: Anurag on their 20-year age gap
Anurag also spoke about the age difference between him and Shubhra and admitted that he has struggled with self-consciousness over it.“We’ve had our moments. We have been self-conscious. I’ve been more conscious,” he said, adding that there was a phase when he tried to push the relationship away because of the scrutiny surrounding their age gap.“There was a point because her face doesn’t show her age. She still looks the same. She doesn’t look her age. So the thing is, the more I grew older and she kept looking the same, that’s when I became slightly conscious,” Anurag explained.

During the conversation, Shubhra also recalled an emotional moment from the early days of their relationship. She told Anurag that falling in love had been on her bucket list and that after experiencing it, she could die happy.The filmmaker became emotional and told her that he had never been afraid of death before meeting her. According to Shubhra, Anurag told her that she had given him something to live for and had made him want to live longer.Shubhra described his perspective on their relationship as a very sweet way of looking at their bond.Shubhra Shetty had worked as an assistant director at Anurag Kashyap’s production house, Phantom Films, before the two began dating. The couple was first spotted together in 2015, while Anurag publicly acknowledged their relationship a few years later in 2018.
