The US Department of Labor recently barred four employers from hiring H-1Bs for 2027 and 2028 after they were found as wilful violators. Labor Department’s inspector general Anthony D’Esposito announced the measure and issued a warning that such actions will continue. “If you’re screwing over American workers, we’re coming for you,” D’Esposito said.“Some companies treat H-1B as a get rich quick scam. @Sonderling47 and I are restoring integrity and protecting U.S. jobs. Subpoenas issued. Warrants executed. Much more to come,” the post said.GowraTech, LLC, Renotek Group LLC, Seeloz, Inc. and Sherwood at Mount Dora, Inc. dba Sherwood Academy are the four companies that have been blacklisted for H-1B hiring, effective July 1, 2026. Their debarment periods run into 2027 or 2028, depending on the employer.They have all been found to be ‘wilful violators,’ which means they committed a wilful failure or a material misrepresentation over H-1B labor condition requirements.
‘Wildly insufficient’
Reactions to the inspector general’s social media post were far from mixed as most social media users expressed dissatisfaction over the little action. They questioned how no big names were not there and why these four companies were not barred from H-1B hiring for the rest of the Trump administration, at least.“Sorry inspector general, but this action is wildly insufficient. You’re not even banning these companies from the H1B until the end of Trump’s term! Some will be sponsoring new visas in less than a year! You need to ban thousands of IT shops permanently, not 4 for a few months,” one account wrote.“Why are you targeting small companies when you have companies like @Amazon that have over 20,000 H-1B? You walk into the Seattle headquarters, and feel like you walked into Mumbai. It is blatant hiring discrimination, and nothing is being done about it. Same with @Microsoft, @eBay, @salesforce,@jpmorgan, @USAA,@IBM, etc,” another wrote.“As long as you don’t impact the donor class, right? I work in a fortune 200 company that has so many Indian workers I don’t recognize the place from just 5 years ago. My children won’t have jobs available to them post college because of visa abuse,” a third user wrote.
