The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in 2015, aims to provide pucca houses with basic civic amenities to eligible urban households across the country. The scheme targets urban housing shortages, particularly among Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) families, including slum dwellers, through financial assistance, subsidised loans and affordable housing projects.
